BSc in Geology

Overview

Students must earn a minimum of 180 credits including credits from elective courses.

Duration:

3 years

Admission Requirements:

A pass in any two of these subjects at A’ levels Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, Mathematics, and Geology, geography or a pass in the Baccalaureat D for French speaking students. The student is also expected to pass in at least four papers at the Ordinary level GCE. French speaking students seeking admission must submit themselves to an English language proficiency test or undergo a three months intensive English language course offered at the University of Bamenda during the summer holidays.

BSc in Environmental Science

Overview

Students must earn a minimum of 180 credits including credits from elective courses.

MSc in Geoscience

Overview:

Students must earn a total number of credits of between 120 required for graduation. OPTIONS: a. Economic Geology and Mineral Exploration, b. Petroleum Geoscience, c. Micropaleontology/Biostratigraphy, d. Hydrogeology. e. Petrology and Geochemistry.

Duration:

2 years

Admission Requirements:

Candidates must be holder of Bachelor’s degree in Geology, mining and environmental Sciences or related disciplines with a minimum GPA of 2.50. Description of the Programme: Students must earn a total number of credits of between 120 required for graduation.

Professional Masters in Environmental Science (3 Options)

Overview:

Students must earn a total number of credits between 120-128 required for graduation OPTIONS: - Natural Environmental Resource Management, - Industrial and Urban Waste Management, - Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Duration:

2 years

Admission Requirements:

Candidates must be holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology and related disciplines including B-Tech, with a minimum GPA of 2.60. Candidates must have fulfilled all the requirements for admission into the Faculty of Science.

PhD in Applied Geology (2 Options)

Overview:

After completing the 60 credits from the prescribed examination of course(s) and the Ph.D comprehensive examination, the Ph.D candidate shall conduct original research, write and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation under conditions fixed by Senate. The candidate shall satisfy any other requirements of post-graduate studies as may be duly approved for by the Faculty of Science.

Admission Requirements:

Candidates for the Ph.D. Programmes shall satisfy the conditions as stipulated in the General Regulations of the Faculty of Science/Postgraduate School of the University of Bamenda, for example, candidates must: i) Hold a good Master Degree in Geology, Geophysics and other relevant Geoscience discipline of the University of Bamenda or other Universities approved by Senate, ii) Submit a Ph.D project proposal acceptable to the Departmental Scientific Board. However, the Department reserves the right to conduct a selection test and/or interview when deemed necessary. Depending on the background of a candidate and the specialty sort for, it may be necessary to prescribe remedial courses at lower levels but the total credit value must not exceed twelve (12) at the time of first registration of the candidate. Relevant courses obtained by a candidate at the M.Sc. level with less than a ‘B’ grade will be repeated. OPTIONS: a. Petroleum Geoscience. b. Economic Geology and Petrology.
